TL;DR:
- April and July are the two genuinely quiet months in our job book. Easiest time to get the day you want.
- January, February and September to November are the busiest. Book earlier in those months.
- June only looks like the bottom of the year. It was our advertising that stopped, not the demand. We had that wrong in our own numbers until we checked.
- The season barely changes drying time. Method does: hot-water extraction is walk-on ready in about 4 to 6 hours, dry carpet cleaning in about 1 to 2.
- Pick a month for a reason, guests, a lease, a spill you are tired of looking at. The calendar is only a tiebreaker.

What did 31 months of jobs show?
We turned the monthly job counts into an index where 100 is the average month. That keeps the shape of the year without publishing our capacity.

Two things fall out of that.
The year has two peaks, not one. Summer (January–February) is the obvious one. The second is spring, September, October and November all sit around 108, and they arrive together. If you want a specific Saturday in October, ask in September.
April and July are the real quiet months. Not by a lot, but consistently. Those are the weeks where you are most likely to get the exact time you want.
Why does June look worse than it is?
Here is the part worth being honest about, because we got it wrong first.
Pooled naively, June looks like the deepest trough of the year, index 78, worse than July. Every seasonal-advice article in this industry would have written “winter is the slow season” and moved on.
It isn’t true. June is the month this business twice cut its advertising to almost nothing. In June 2024 we spent A$0 on ads, and that month was the quietest in the entire 31-month record. When we pool only the months where the ad account actually ran, June comes out at 98, an ordinary month.
So the “winter slump” in our own data was us, not the season. We only found it because we controlled for the one thing we could check. It is the reason we publish the method next to the numbers.
What that means for you: don’t avoid winter on the theory that carpet cleaning is a summer job. It isn’t.
Does the season change how long it takes to dry?
Less than people expect, because carpet dries indoors with airflow, not with sunshine. What actually decides the number is the method:
- Hot-water extraction (steam), walk-on ready in about 4 to 6 hours.
- Dry carpet cleaning, about 1 to 2 hours.
We tell you which one suits your carpet before we start, and we give you a realistic time on the day rather than a number from a brochure. In winter, opening a window is doing less for you than a fan and a closed door with the heating on.
Getting it dry is the part that matters most. The US EPA’s mould guide notes that materials dried quickly usually do not grow mould, and its cleanup advice says the same about wet materials indoors. Victoria’s health service takes the same line. That is why we care more about how much water comes back out of the carpet than how much went in.

So when should you book?
The calendar is the least important input. In order:
- Book for a reason. Guests coming, a lease ending, a stain you have stopped seeing but visitors won’t. A reason beats a month every time, and if it is a lease, check the timing against Consumer Affairs and Tenants Victoria before you book, not after.
- If it is spring, ask early. September to November is our second peak and the good slots go first.
- If you just want it done and don’t care when, April or July. Quietest weeks, easiest booking.
- Don’t stretch it past 12 to 18 months. That is the Carpet and Rug Institute’s general baseline, and their maintenance guidance frames it as protecting the carpet rather than making it look clean.
